"This studio is inspired by Jeff Koons's Balloon Flowers, Puppies and Bunnies as well as his pool toys such as the inflated lobster. Through an attention to the detailed assembly of sheets along with formal rigor, modeling of surface curvature for albido and saturated candy color finishing, ponderous masses are made momentarily lightweight without recourse to dematerialization such as transparency or translucency. The Translucent float and glow effects of many contemporary practices are still within the horizon of Colin Rowe and Robert Slutzky's theory of literal and phenomenal Transparency. Our studio will theorize the design techniques and material effects of a new lightness that does not rely on matter becoming literally or conceptually transparent or translucent. The Koons's Flowers will be a starting point and benchmark for the studio." - Greg Lynn + Jeff Kipnis
